Trademark, Patent and Design Protection in Türkiye for UK and US Companies

UK and US companies usually protect trademarks in Türkiye through a Madrid designation and inventions through the PCT national phase or, for UK applicants, a European patent validated in Türkiye. Trademarks

The United Kingdom, the United States and Türkiye are members of the Madrid System. Unlike in the US, a Turkish application does not need use before registration, but a registered mark must be put to genuine use in Türkiye within five years of registration.

Patents

US and UK PCT applications enter the Turkish national phase within 30 months of priority. UK applicants can also validate a European patent in Türkiye within three months of the mention of grant.

Designs

Türkiye protects designs by design registration, for 5 years renewable up to 25 years. A US design application can give a six-month priority right for a Turkish or Hague filing.
