International Application from Turkey
EU Trade Marks and Designs (EUIPO)
An EU trade mark or a registered EU design protects your brand or product design in all 27 EU member states with one application at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). We assess the mark or design, prepare the application and coordinate the filing and any oppositions with our partner attorneys in the EU, so you keep one contact in Türkiye.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Turkish exporters and brands entering the EU, and foreign companies managing their EU and Turkish rights together.
- What we do
- Clearance, preparation of the specification or views, filing at EUIPO through partner attorneys, oppositions and renewals.
- What you send us
- The mark or the design views, the goods and services or products, and the applicant's details.
- Timeline
- An EU trade mark lasts 10 years, renewable; an EU design lasts 5 years, renewable up to 25 years.
How it works
Check
We search for earlier EU and national rights and assess distinctiveness.
Preparation
We draft the goods and services list or prepare the design views.
Filing
The application is filed at EUIPO through our partner attorney, with priority from a Turkish filing where available.
Follow-up
We coordinate objections, oppositions and renewals and report to you in your language.
One right for the whole EU
An EU trade mark is a single right with the same effect in every EU member state. That is its strength and its weakness: an earlier right in a single member state can block the whole application. A search across the EU before filing is therefore worth the effort.
Oppositions at EUIPO
After publication, owners of earlier rights have three months to oppose an EU trade mark application. We watch for conflicting applications against your marks and coordinate oppositions with our partners.
Representation
Applicants without a domicile or establishment in the European Economic Area must be represented before EUIPO by a representative from the EEA. We work with partner attorneys in the EU for the filing and coordinate the whole matter from Istanbul.
Using Turkish priority
A Turkish trademark or design application gives a six-month priority right for an EU filing, so you can file in Türkiye first and extend to the EU without losing the date.
Documents checklist
- The mark (word or logo) or the design views
- Goods and services or the product indication
- Applicant's details
- Priority document of an earlier filing, if any
Frequently asked questions
Does an EU trade mark protect my brand in Türkiye?
No. Türkiye is not an EU member state. A Turkish filing, or a Madrid designation of Türkiye, is needed for protection in Türkiye.
How long does an EU trade mark last?
Ten years from the filing date, renewable for further ten-year periods.
Can a Turkish company file at EUIPO directly?
A company without a domicile or establishment in the European Economic Area must be represented by an EEA representative. We coordinate this through our partner attorneys.
