Patent Application
European Patent Validation in Türkiye
A granted European patent takes effect in Türkiye only when it is validated at TÜRKPATENT: the Turkish translation is filed and the fee paid within three months of the publication of the mention of grant in the European Patent Bulletin. We check the deadline, prepare the translation and complete the validation, then keep the patent in force with annual fees.

How it works
Instructions
You send the patent number and the grant date; we confirm the three-month deadline.
Translation
We prepare the Turkish translation of the granted text.
Validation
We file the translation and pay the fee at TÜRKPATENT, which publishes the validation.
Maintenance
We pay the annual fees in Türkiye and remind you before each deadline.
Why validation is needed
Türkiye is a member of the European Patent Convention, so a European patent can designate Türkiye. After grant, the patent becomes a bundle of national rights; in Türkiye it has effect only once the Turkish translation is filed and published by TÜRKPATENT.
The Unitary Patent does not cover Türkiye
The Unitary Patent covers the participating EU member states. Türkiye is not an EU member, so even when unitary effect is requested, Türkiye must still be validated separately within the deadline.
Missing the deadline
If the translation is not filed in time, the European patent has no effect in Türkiye. Act as soon as grant is announced; we confirm the deadline on the day we receive the instruction.
Annual fees
After validation, annual fees are paid in Türkiye. A missed fee can still be paid within six months with an additional fee.

Frequently asked questions
What is the deadline for validating a European patent in Türkiye?
Three months from the publication of the mention of grant in the European Patent Bulletin.
Does a Unitary Patent protect my invention in Türkiye?
No. Türkiye is not an EU member state and does not take part in the Unitary Patent. A separate validation in Türkiye is still required.
Can a European patent be opposed after validation?
Yes. An opposition at the EPO within nine months of grant affects all designated states, including Türkiye.
