Design Application
International Design Registration (Hague System)
The Hague System lets you protect an industrial design in many countries and regions with one international application filed at WIPO, in one language and with one set of fees. Turkish applicants use it to expand abroad; foreign applicants use it to designate Türkiye. We prepare and file the application and handle objections from the designated offices.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Designers and manufacturers protecting a product's appearance in several countries, and foreign owners designating Türkiye.
- What we do
- Choice of route, preparation of the views, international application at WIPO, replies to refusals and renewals.
- What you send us
- Clear views of the design, the product name, the countries and the applicant's details.
- Timeline
- Protection runs in 5-year periods; the total term in each country follows its own law (up to 25 years in Türkiye).
How it works
Route
We compare the Hague route with national or EU filings for your countries.
Views
We check the drawings or photos against the requirements of the designated offices.
Filing
We file the international application at WIPO, with any deferment of publication you need.
Follow-up
We handle refusals in Türkiye and coordinate partner attorneys for refusals abroad.
How it works
One international application at WIPO names the contracting parties where protection is sought. Each designated office can refuse protection for its territory within its time limit; where no refusal is issued, the design is protected there as if filed nationally.
Designating Türkiye
Türkiye is a member of the Hague System. A design that designates Türkiye is examined by TÜRKPATENT like a national design and can be opposed by third parties after publication. We answer refusals and oppositions in Türkiye.
Points to check before filing
- Novelty and individual character: publish nothing before filing, or file within the grace period the law allows
- View requirements differ between offices; one set of views must satisfy all designated ones
- Several designs of the same class can be combined in one application
Documents checklist
- Views of the design (drawings or photos)
- Product name and any short description
- Applicant's details and entitlement
- Priority documents, if any
Frequently asked questions
Can I designate Türkiye in a Hague application?
Yes. Türkiye is a contracting party of the Hague System, and an international registration designating Türkiye has the same effect as a Turkish design registration unless TÜRKPATENT refuses it.
How long does Hague protection last?
The international registration is renewed every 5 years. The total term in each country depends on its law; in Türkiye it is up to 25 years.
Is Hague always the best route?
Not always. For a few countries or where offices are strict on views, national or EU filings can be simpler. We compare the routes for your list.
