International Application from Turkey
National Filings Abroad: UK, China, Japan and UAE
Some markets call for a national filing, either because no regional system covers them or because a national filing gives better control. We coordinate trademark, patent and design filings in the United Kingdom, China, Japan and the United Arab Emirates with partner attorneys in each country, from one plan and one contact in Istanbul.
At a glance
- Who it is for
- Turkish companies exporting to or manufacturing in these countries, and foreign owners managing several countries together.
- What we do
- Route selection (national, Madrid, Hague or PCT), clearance, filings through partner attorneys and follow-up.
- What you send us
- The mark, design or invention, the goods or products and the target countries.
- Timeline
- Each office has its own timeline; we confirm deadlines and terms in writing before filing.
How it works
Plan
We decide with you between national filings and the Madrid, Hague or PCT routes.
Local check
Our partners check local conflicts and requirements, such as Chinese sub-classes or translations.
Filing
Partner attorneys file at each national office; we track every deadline.
Reporting
You receive one report for all countries, in your language.
United Kingdom
Since Brexit, EU trade marks and EU designs no longer cover the United Kingdom. UK protection comes from a UK filing at the UK Intellectual Property Office, a Madrid or Hague designation of the UK, or a European patent validated in the UK.
China
China follows a first-to-file system, so early filing is the best defence against trademark squatting. The Chinese classification divides each Nice class into sub-classes, which affects both the search and the specification. A Chinese-language version of the mark is often worth registering too.
Japan
Japan is covered by national filings at the Japan Patent Office or by the Madrid, Hague and PCT systems. We help you choose the route and coordinate replies to examination with our partner.
United Arab Emirates
Trademarks, patents and designs in the UAE are filed nationally. Requirements for documents such as powers of attorney can be formal; we prepare them with you before filing.
Documents checklist
- The mark, design views or invention documents
- Goods and services or products
- Applicant's details
- Legalised or notarised documents where an office requires them
Frequently asked questions
Does an EU trade mark still cover the United Kingdom?
No. Since Brexit the UK needs its own protection: a UK application, or a Madrid designation of the United Kingdom.
Why register early in China?
China is first-to-file: the first applicant generally obtains the mark. Early filing prevents third parties from registering your brand first.
Should I use the Madrid System or national filings?
It depends on the countries, the goods and the risk of objections. We compare both for your list and recommend one plan.
